OUR ROOTS
What started as a curious homebrew habit for our founder, Preston—a pre-med/biology major—quickly turned into a full-blown passion. In a bold move, he swapped med school applications for mash tuns and fermenters, and Captain Fatty’s was born in November 2014. Over the last 11 years, the brewery has grown from a backyard homebrew setup into a beloved community staple, built by Preston alongside his wife, a Santa Barbara native who helps lead the business behind the scenes. While much of their time is devoted to raising and homeschooling their three children, the brewery remains guided by the family values and partnership it was built on.

At Captain Fatty’s, we craft easy-drinking beers inspired by the laid-back lifestyle of California’s Central Coast. Whether you're kicking back after a surf session, hiking your favorite trail, or grilling with friends in the backyard, our brews are made to pair perfectly with life’s simple pleasures. From crisp lagers and hoppy IPAs to rich stouts, sours, and everything in between—we brew something for everyone. We hope every sip takes you back to those sun-soaked moments and good times shared.

Captain Fatty’s is a neighborhood taproom built on good beer, good company, and a strong sense of community. Inspired by the Central Coast, we offer a welcoming space where friends and families can gather, relax, and enjoy thoughtfully crafted beer in an atmosphere that feels familiar and comfortable. We value family, personal connections, and being a place locals are proud to call their own—whether you’re a regular or visiting for the first time. Families, children, and dogs are welcome.
